Suona & Guan

The suona (or solna) has a reed fitted to a conical bore and a metal bell. It has a powerful nasal tone. Suonas come in different sizes.

The suona is a very loud instrument and is commonly used as lead instruments as their nasal tone is similar to voice. The suona is an important instrument in Chinese folk music and is used in ceremonies such as weddings, funerals, and other events.

The guan or guanzi has a cylindrical bore fitted with a reed mouth piece. Consequently it has a reedy nasal timbre. There are different types and sizes of guan.
